More about the Retreat
It's being said that Nicaragua is the next Costa Rica (New York Times Article), which is very exciting for us. As we move further into the details of this trip, we continually find reasons why this country is an ideal place for this sort of retreat.
Though Nicaragua is an economically poor country working to stabilize itself through some of its top commodities - its gorgeous landscape and white sand beaches, its welcoming people and its tropical sunshine - it is also a culture rich in spirit and celebration for life.
After a tumultuous past, the last 2 decades of Nicaragua have been a time of restructuring and stabilizing. They are happy to report some of the lowest, if not thee lowest crime in all of Latin America. Their democratic government has led its people into a time of prosperity, slowly strengthening its infrastructure through its main exports: coffee, cotton, sugar, gold and bananas, as well as through tourism which they graciously welcome. They want you to know who they are and what they do.
Morgan’s Rock Hacienda and Ecolodge is a pioneer in tourism development in Nicaragua, being the first hotel to follow the strict CST (Certification of Sustainable Tourism) ecological guidelines developed in Costa Rica.
Morgan’s Rock was built in a sustainable way using the resources predominately from their country. They invest in their local area making them appreciated by their community. Even a pair of slacks left behind by a guest has turned into a big event at the local school where they donated them. They've even adopted the school.
Being a very quaint location, there are only 15 rooms, or Bungalows that are surprisingly lavish in a very ecological way. Each of them faces the Pacific Ocean and surrounding forest. They sit on a cliff (accessed by a 100-meter suspension bridge) overlooking the private bay and estuary. All bungalows feature one king size bed, a comfortable sofa bed, a suspended day bed and private deck. View Photos
They are truly one of the highest rated luxury resorts (or Hacienda / Ecolodge) in all of Nicaragua, one which we are excited to support and experience first hand. Speaking to the beauty of this location, Sports Illustrated will be shooting their swimsuit issue there the week after our retreat!
